ESCWA's vision of the methodology for preparing, developing and activating the Arab strategy for information and communication technology (Arab Digital Agenda) (Available in Arabic language only)

This document presents the vision of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) for the proposed new methodology for preparing, developing and activating the “Arab Strategy for Information and Communication Technology (Arab Digital Agenda), as it recommends adopting a new approach to launch a technical cooperation project in partnership between the Executive Secretariat of ESCWA and the General Secretariat of the League of Nations Arab countries and Arab countries are members of the Arab working group for the Arab strategy for communications and information and representatives of the Arab ministers of communications and information technology, and with the participation of relevant Arab, regional, international and UN organizations The project aims to develop a joint document for a long-term Arab framework, under the name of “The Arab Digital Agenda and the Arab Strategy for Information Technology and communications”, accompanied by a proposal for an “executive action plan” aimed at activating this agenda and strategy, guided by all valuable documents and studies that were presented to the team or produced by the team from 2016 to 2020, all of which will be poured into the intended document.

This framework would be an Arab digital agenda similar to the agendas of other regions, such as Europe, Africa and Latin America, led by a comprehensive Arab strategy for information and communication technology (or sectoral strategies as agreed upon during the project and in accordance with the priorities of the countries) accompanied by the most important implementation projects and initiatives to activate this agenda and strategy(s). This document includes the proposed different phases and timelines, including, building partnerships, research and technical cooperation mechanism, resource mobilization, characterization of the proposed identity and the proposed initial structure of the intended strategy, the necessary technical cooperation and the required inputs from the participating Arab countries, partners, Arab and international organizations and supporting bodies.
